As a cooperative business, Food Shed Co-op is strengthened by the support and participation of our owners. Becoming an Owner requires a one-time investment of $200 for two shares of common stock—there are no annual dues or recurring membership fees. Our bylaws require a minimum of two shares, while Illinois law allows each Owner to purchase up to 10 shares.

Additional shares do not provide additional voting rights, benefits, or privileges. They are simply another way to invest in the Co-op and help strengthen its financial stability. We encourage those who have the means and share our commitment to a strong local and regional food system to consider purchasing additional shares, up to the 10-share maximum.

Owners help support greater access to locally grown and produced food, strengthen our local economy, and sustain a welcoming, community-owned grocery store.

Ownership also provides additional benefits, including exclusive discounts and promotions, voting rights in Board elections, eligibility to run for the Board, and early or preferred access to select classes, events, and Co-op opportunities.

Ownership is available to Illinois and Wisconsin residents age 18 and older. Household members may share ownership benefits, while each ownership receives one vote.
