Green Drinks — The Food System We Built — and the One We Need

August 5 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

How did our food system become so dependent on distant corporations, long supply chains, and highly processed foods? More importantly, what can communities do to build something better?

Join Scott Brix, co-founder and Board President of the Food Shed Co-op, for an engaging conversation exploring how local food movements and community-owned cooperatives can help create a healthier, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable food system.

Drawing on decades of experience in food science, engineering, and biotechnology, Scott offers a unique perspective shaped by both the corporate food industry and the grassroots movement to rebuild local food economies. He’ll explore how the way we grow, process, and distribute food affects our health, our communities, and the natural environment—and why strengthening local farmers, local businesses, and community ownership may be one of the most important investments we can make in our future.

Whether you’re passionate about local food, concerned about the environment, or simply curious about where your food comes from, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our food system—and practical reasons to believe that positive change can begin right here in McHenry County.

Come join the conversation and discover how each of us can help cultivate the food system we want to leave for future generations.
