Food Shed Co-op’s “Feed Your Creative Soul” Art Wall offers local artists a space to share their work with the community in a supportive, family friendly environment. The Art Wall is located in the Café area at Food Shed Co-op and features a rotating selection of work from local artists. Exhibits change every two months and individual pieces are available for purchase at the artist’s discretion.
Community Art Wall Guidelines
Participating artists must apply online at www.foodshed.coop/artist-wall and provide examples of their work to be considered for Food Shed Co-op’s Art Wall display.
● To maintain our safe and welcoming environment, all displayed art must be non-discriminatory, non-graphic/explicit in content, and appropriate for all ages.
● Artwork should encompass the themes of community, culture, family, identity, nature, growth, food, agriculture, health or sustainability.
● No copying is allowed. Work must be original
● Professional and emerging artists are accepted.
● The Community Art Wall space is located on the two exterior walls of the community room (in the hallway and in the dining area). There is 20 linear feet of art hanging hardware used to hang the work. Each artist’s work must fill the majority of the Art Wall space.
● Artwork will arrive at Food Shed Co-op ready to hang (i.e. with a hanging wire behind canvases or photos, etc.).
● All art must be displayed using the art rail system. No nails, tacks, or other materials that would puncture the wall or remove the paint may be used.
● The artist is responsible for repairing any damage to the wall due to set up or removal of their exhibit.
● It is the responsibility of the artist to hang during the first three days of the month assigned and take down the exhibit during the last three days of the final month.
● 2D artwork must be either gallery wrapped or properly framed – all edges must be finished and completely dry.
● Glass or plexiglass is acceptable – If matted, mats must be clean.
● Pastels must be sealed.
● Artwork must be securely fastened with picture wire with the center wire 3 inches below the top of frame. Wire must be taped – No sharp wire exposed.
● All surfaces must be dry.
● The suggested artwork to exhibit is 11 inches tall or bigger.
● Work should fit in the wall space (not beyond the area).
● The featured artist is welcomed to sell artwork off the art wall.
● There is no commission for sales; artist receives 100% of sales.
● The featured artist must coordinate artwork sales with purchaser.
● We recommend providing business cards for customers to pick up.
If artwork is sold while on display, it must remain up until the end of the show or be replaced.
● Artists must provide an exhibit title, a brief, typed artist statement
(vertical 8.5×11 inches), a separate list of artwork titles, descriptions, prices, including contact information (if for sale), typed artwork labels (at the time of hanging), and high-resolution photos of art pieces.
● Artwork labels will include: Title of work, medium, size, price (if selling) for each piece you are displaying.
● Labels must be displayed on the image/frame itself or on the wall with a fully removable mounting putty safe for damage-free use.
● This information will be displayed with the exhibit and used on our website and any marketing materials.
● Publicity information should be submitted electronically to the Outreach Director at outreach@foodshed.coop by the first of the month prior to your exhibit.
● Any outside advertising of the exhibit is the responsibility of the artist but must be pre-approved by the Outreach Director.
● Provide local artists with a free place to display and share their work with the community.
● Assist artists to hang up and remove their artwork from the art wall.
● Make at least one Social Media posting about the artist’s work during the months it is on display.
● Food Shed Co-op does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to artwork(s) or to frames or glass, no matter how sustained. We strongly recommend that each artist carry their own insurance.
● The artist accepts responsibility for any loss or damage to artwork.
● The artist waives any and all claims against Food Shed Co-op for personal injury during set up or removal of the exhibit.
