Allen Stebbins • Contemporary Landscape Painting
Paul Gauguin once said, “Art is abstraction. Abstract it from nature while dreaming in front of it.” The landscape has long captured my imagination. It is in the peace and tranquility of open spaces, expansive skies, woodlands and old farms that I find inspiration. My paintings are a search to capture the spatial essence, patterns and textures of the natural places I’ve encountered. Through bold color and expressive brushwork, my paintings are intended to create a visual dialogue with viewers, eliciting recollections of familiar places equally special to them. Each painting is an original oil painting executed on either stretched double oil primed linen canvas or linen panel and archivally framed.
